Roof Angel
This angel is one of nine from the Church of St Edith in Grimoldby, Lincolnshire. The angels were once part of a false hammer beam ceiling and were installed in C15 to early C16, remarkably survining the Dissolution of the Monestaries and Cromwell's Protectorate.
The angels are going to be reinstalled in the church roof and required extensive interventive treatment to combat the damage caused by wet rot and deathwatch beetle infestations. The dark surface coating was actively flaking and had to be consolidated before the angel could be cleaned. Extensive testing led to Aquazol as the most appropriate material: 500 molecular weight for flake consolidation and 200 molecular weight for injection & structural support.
